About the role
APEM has a large and increasing portfolio of work in freshwater ecology and hydro-ecology. Projects at APEM include delivering the environmental components of water company water resource plans, drought plans and research commissions to the UK environmental regulators. As a Senior Freshwater Ecology Consultant, you will work with a team of aquatic scientists with expertise in areas such as freshwater ecology, hydrology, invasive non-native species, water quality, natural capital, environmental management and data analytics. Delivering results to typical clients, which include UK environment and conservation agencies, water and energy industries as well as infrastructure developers.
Please note we currently have three open permanent positions for this role.
About you
The ideal candidate will be able to work independently as well as a leader of project teams. You will be confident in providing specialist technical input, working with multi-disciplinary project teams and building a great rapport with clients. In addition, you should be prepared to travel in order to attend meetings, undertake site visits and carry out field work across the UK. A valid driver’s license is therefore essential for this position.
Skills and Experience:
- Ideally professional work experience in freshwater environmental work
- Excellent report writing and numerical skills
- Project management experience
- Proven ability to work to a deadline and within budget
Desirable skills:
- Experience in delivering projects within commercial consultancy, industry or regulators
- Tendering/proposal writing experience
- Experience of managing sub-contractors
- Knowledge of relevant UK legislation regarding water resource management
- Ability to manage and analyse environmental data (using R, ArcGIS/QGIS, Excel, SQL or Python).
