About the role
APEM’s hydromorphology team continues to expand and is currently undertaking exciting projects in river restoration, weir removal, reinstating more natural flow regimes downstream of reservoirs, habitat modelling, risk mapping, sediment fingerprinting, management of scour and gravel augmentation.
We are now seeking a high-calibre and commercially-minded hydromorphologist at Principal or Senior Consultant grade to support our expansion. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to make their mark as part of a growing team. Applications from those with specialist knowledge of development and infrastructure sectors, river and wetland restoration, sediment/ catchment investigations and sediment management (including sediment contamination) would be particularly welcome.
About you
We anticipate candidates will have a range of field survey, data analysis and report writing skills. You will have a MSc or PhD in a relevant discipline (geomorphology, hydrology, environmental science, catchment management) or the equivalent professional experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is as the ability to work to tight deadlines. The ability to analyse geospatial data in GIS, hydraulic/ sediment transport modelling and catchment modelling would be advantageous.
Essential experience/ skills:
MSc in a relevant discipline (e.g. geomorphology, hydrology, environmental science, catchment management) plus at least two years’ relevant experience in a consultancy, regulatory or third sector environment; Or a PhD in a relevant discipline.
- Excellent understanding of hydrological and fluvial/ riparian zone geomorphological processes.
- Experience of undertaking field work, e.g. restoration appraisal, fluvial audits, physical habitat surveys, sediment sampling.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work to tight deadlines
Desirable experience/ skills:
- Able to view and analyse geospatial data in GIS.
- Project management.
- Hydraulic modelling
- Sediment transport modelling.

Whether you are an applicant with academic, regulatory, consultancy or third sector experience you will need to demonstrate your ability to apply your skills in a commercial consultancy context through experience of managing projects and dealing with people effectively and professionally.
You will be primarily office/home-based, although site visits, client meetings and fieldwork are likely to be required. These may include overnight stays; therefore, a full driving licence and personal flexibility is essential.
