About the role
APEM’s hydromorphology team continues to expand and is currently undertaking exciting projects in hydrology, hydrometry, water resources management, habitat modelling, wetland management, river restoration and Catchment Abstraction Management Strategies.
We are now seeking a high-calibre and commercially minded hydraulic modeller at Senior Consultant grade to support our expansion. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to make their mark as part of a growing team. Applications from those with specialist knowledge of using hydraulic modelling for environmental assessment and improvement projects would be particularly welcome.
About you
We anticipate candidates will have a range of modelling, data analysis, report writing and project management skills. You will have a MSc or PhD in a relevant discipline (hydrology, water resources modelling, environmental science, catchment management) or the equivalent professional experience. Excellent numerical, verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is as the ability to work flexibly to tight deadlines. Catchment modelling, the ability to analyse geospatial data in GIS or in R would be highly advantageous.
Essential experience/ skills:
- MSc in a relevant discipline (e.g. geomorphology, hydrology, environmental science, catchment management) plus at least two years’ relevant experience in a consultancy, regulatory or third sector environment; Or a PhD in a relevant discipline.
- Experience in hydraulic modelling for water resources, river restoration and environmental applications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Project management.
Desirable experience/ skills:
- Experience in hydraulic modelling for water resources, river restoration and environmental applications.
- Able to view and analyse geospatial data in GIS/ R.

Whether you are an applicant with academic, regulatory, consultancy or third sector experience you will need to demonstrate your ability to apply your skills in a commercial consultancy context through experience of managing projects and dealing with people effectively and professionally.
You will be primarily office/home-based, although site visits, client meetings and fieldwork are likely to be required. These may include overnight stays; therefore, a full driving licence and personal flexibility is essential.
