2019 has been a big year for APEM so far. We have been awarded water industry consultant of the year, have successfully secured places on a number of key water company AMP7 frameworks and we completed a management buyout. We are heading for a new record turnover and are pushing forward into a number of new areas as well as expanding our teams in our traditional areas and are looking for an experienced environmental economist to support us achieve this.
About the role
You will work within a dynamic team of aquatic environmental scientists with cross-cutting expertise in ecology, hydrology, geomorphology, water quality, fisheries and natural and social capital, to deliver a range of projects for the UK water and energy industries, and their environmental regulators. The purpose of the role will be to support the development and delivery of APEM’s natural and social capital service and to provide economic support to water industry and energy sector projects. The role will require the application of economics tools (for example: cost-benefit analysis, natural capital accounting) and contributing to the development of new tools and approaches.
Key features of the Senior Consultant role will be managing a range of projects to ensure the delivery of high quality outputs within budget. This role will also require contributing to or leading the production of competitive tenders.
You will be primarily office-based, although site visits and client meetings will be required.

Candidates must have desk-based experience of conducting economic analysis for a range of environmental projects across water, air, land, or renewable energy resources.
You will be an enthusiastic self-starter with an interest in the environment and economics. You will be qualified to a minimum of BSc. level in a relevant discipline, with evidence of experience relevant to the grade you are applying for. Whether you are an applicant with academic, regulatory, consultancy or third sector experience you will need to demonstrate your ability to apply your skills in a fast-paced commercial consultancy context through experience of managing projects and dealing with people effectively and professionally.
