About the role
This is an excellent opportunity for the right motivated individual to join our expanding, busy and experienced Marine Wildlife and Ornithology team.
APEM is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic individual with a proven track record in project delivery and team management. Knowledge and an understanding of avian (or marine mammal) ecology including aspects of behaviour, breeding, migration and species distributions would be beneficial but not essential.
APEM’s Marine Wildlife and Ornithology team is currently undertaking projects worldwide, collecting high-resolution aerial digital data for environmental projects. The purpose of the role is two-fold, first to manage a team of specialists in data handling/analysis. The team analyse high resolution images, to accurately record the presence and identify species from wildlife surveys using specialist in-house software. The position will have line management responsibility for senior team members engaged in quality assurance of data analysed by other Image Analysts. Experience of managing and manipulating large data sets and manipulation is essential. In addition the position shall be responsible for developing strategic client relationships and overseeing marine wildlife survey projects - reporting and business development for the consultancy work stream and managing internal interfaces with the remote sensing/data operations division.
Successful applicants should preferably have a degree in biology / environmental science /computer science and relevant experience in project/data management. You will have strength in people management and experience in managing variable workloads and motivating staff. The candidate shall be dynamic, enthusiastic and able to work to tight deadlines and be an active interface manager with other departments, building strong working relationships both internally and externally. Understanding of MS Office packages such as Excel is essential, and experience of GIS software packages. Previous experience in data handling and/or manipulation is essential alongside working knowledge of quality management/control. Flexibility and reliability are key in this role and high attention to detail is required.
