Adrian took over from Dr Keith Hendry as managing director in 2018. He formerly had overall responsibility for the aquatic ecology core of APEM including the consultants, field teams and laboratories. Under his leadership APEM grew to become Europe’s largest independent provider of aquatically based ecological services. Adrian is an aquatic ecologist who joined APEM in 2002, coming from an academic background. He has published numerous papers for international peer reviewed journals and contributed book chapters on the eutrophication and restoration of Africa’s Lake Victoria and the restoration of the Manchester Ship Canal and Salford Quays. He was a scientific adviser to the Species Survival Commission of The World Conservation Union (IUCN) and a committee member for the Institute of Fisheries Management (IFM) and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
