Paul specialises in fisheries engineering and freshwater fisheries ecology. His experience in aquatic engineering projects includes the appraisal and design of fish passes for salmonids, eel, lamprey and coarse fish species at a wide range of barriers to migration. He has authored or provided technical fisheries input for a range of assessments, including Habitat Regulations Assessments for hydro-power developments and flood control works located within protected SAC water bodies. He has also authored fisheries chapters for EIAs and Water Framework Directive assessments and provided technical fisheries input into environmental assessment reports for drought permits. He advises on best-practice screening solutions for abstractions to ensure regulatory compliance and has a strong working knowledge of fish screening solutions and fish recovery-and-return approaches.
